Helena is open for riding. That’s the short story. Since the tropical weather we’ve been having this past week, almost all trails are open. There is an occasional soft or muddy spot, but these are drying up quickly. Please try not to tear into the trail if it obviously needs ripening. All I can say is go ride.
A couple of things to watch out for:
- Over the last week the forest service had some controlled burns here and there. Today seemed especially hazy as the breeze picked up in the afternoon with the burn in the Wakina Sky area, but the drizzle happening this evening will hopefully settle that down.
- Trees are still falling. So when you’re pumped, going mach 5 round a turn, be warned that your path may be abruptly interrupted by decaying wood. Huge round long pieces.
- Also, with many people experiencing spring fever, the trails can have some traffic. Watch out for other bikers, hikers, runners and dogs on our multi-use trail system. Please be courteous when passing others.
If this weather stays consistent through this coming weekend the gravity guild will start up group rides this next tuesday. We will post more information after this coming weekend.
What have you been riding? Noticed any down trees? Use the comment section below to get some early season beta out to others. And we will do what we can to inform the proper organizations and help alleviate any issues encountered on the trials.
Now go ride.
