May12

Last Tuesday night was our first official Gravity Guild Group ride, and oh am I glad that they are back. The group ride that leaves from the shop every tuesday night is always one of my favorite times of the week. good friends, good trails and a beer at the top is my idea of [...]

The Garage Trail Royalty

May10

With all the great trails in the area, and so many fast riders, all of us down here at the Garage thought it would be fun to see who holds the top times on some our favorite trails.   The idea is simple, and there is nothing in it for you other than that good old personal gratification, and big freakin High Five.  Do you think you got what it takes to be Trail Royalty?  If you do, there are three ways to get an official Garage time.

1. Strava – Probably the easiest way to post up a time, and you can do it on your own when ever you like.  Just download the free app onto your phone and go ride. All courses for the Royalty Wall will be listed with “The Garage Official” following the trail name. thats were we will pull the times from, not some other segment that has been put up.  You can get signed up Here

2.  Gravity Guild Free Lap Times – The Gravity Guild owns a Free Lap Timing System and about once to twice a month we all go out and have a little timing session.  all times for official trails are honored, while on an group ride with the Free Lap.

3. Helenduro Results – If any of the timed sections on the Helenduro race for any year match the trails then these times will be honored.

Keep in mind that all of these trails are multi use and these are not closed trails… so don’t be a dick!  be careful, respectful and don’t go bust out for fast times on high traffic times…. like weekends!

Trail Segments that are currently up on the wall -

Show Me the Horse
Heaven & Hell
E-Trail
Entertainment
Top of the World/Rent Money
Hog’s Dump

We have new times going up almost daily, so get out there and lay a time down. And remember this isn’t a race, just bragging rights.  if you have any questions just leave a comment.

Trail Report 11.3.12

Nov04

I Love Fall.  I have had several months off of the bike because life got in the way, now Steve has rebuilt my fork and my Nomad C is ready and raring to go.   After a crappy late summer because I wasn’t on my bike, I am feeling better and ready to ride.  What is this?  Snow?  For days? Did I miss the end of the season? Wait, now the snow is melting into those super dry and loose trails.  Will I have another window to get out before winter really sets in?  So now I have to make a choice.  If I haven’t been on our local trails for a long time, which do I choose first…..is that a question even worth asking?  Why, Highway to Hell, of course!!

As I ride up the dirt road to Wakina Sky trail I can see the road is damp, what a good sign! (does that climb EVER get easier?).  First I must thank the Trail Fairies that have cleared all the wind blown logs off the trail.  They kindly hauled their chainsaws up the climbs so we could keep enjoying the descents.  (or should I call them Trolls? I don’t know if they appreciate being called Fairies).  I didn’t have a single tree on the trail to worry about for either the climb or the descent.  As I make my way up to the top, I can see the trail has firmed up but in the drier areas the top layer of stones are still sitting on top of the soil and are loose so I will have to keep my eye out on the descent.  I get to the top and drop my saddle.  Here comes my favorite part…Focus on body position, looking ahead and let it go!  At first I am a little tentative since I have heard how loose the trails got with the dry summer.  Then I start to relax and let experience take over.  As the trail goes in and out of the trees, there are some areas that you still have to be ready for your tires to drift, but others where you can lean and push into the corners.  It feels like I am on rails….I LOVE that feeling!  The very end in the trees holds a little more water is starting to get just a little greasy, just enough to make it interesting on the sidehill.   As I reach the bottom, I can’t wait to get out for my next ride to feel that again!

So, I hope I can get out again tomorrow but I am wondering about where there may be trees down or trails that are clear.  Does anyone else have reports on what trails are open or ones we need to work on clearing?  Hope you are all enjoying your fall!

Bike Park Update

Oct23

There was a great turnout at the bike park meeting last night. Big thank you to Amy Teegarden and the City of Helena for helping with the meeting logistics and keeping everybody in the loop as to how the project is coming along. In case you were not able to attend, here’s where we are at.

There have been some specific areas which will be be focusing our efforts on between now and next spring, they are:Bike Park Meeting

  • Design
  • Public Relations
  • Finance
  • Construction

Everyone who came to the meeting was asked to fill out a form to let Amy know which area they would like to help with. Once we know where everyone wants to help out, people will break out into groups (committees lets call them) with one of the above areas of focus and work on getting that done.

How will this all come together? Each committee will designate someone to be their committee head. These designated people out of each committee will have added responsibility to meet with each other and the city regularly to ensure that we are all working in a way that makes sense and to help steer the process so we keep heading in the right direction, toward a sweet bike park.

If you were not at the meeting and would like to be a part of this effort please fill out the form below and you will receive updates via email about the project!

Get stoked! A bike park is coming!
